ENVIRONMENTALLY PREFERRED DESIGN
From its efficient design, to the way it’s manufactured, and to the plastic bottles it prevents from ever becoming waste, the eSpring® system is a giant step in the direction of safe, clean, and sustainable drinking water.
A DESIGN THAT REFLECTS RESPONSIBILITY
Amway takes its corporate commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable environment very seriously. This is evident across Amway’s product lines, including eSpring® Water Treatment Systems. From an efficient design to responsible manufacturing processes to the numerous plastic water bottles eSpring users can avoid, eSpring is a giant step in the direction of safe, clean, and environmentally responsible drinking water.
A LIFETIME PRODUCT DESIGN
Amway was able to reduce the product’s plastic content by 51%, its global warming potential by 46% and its energy use by 46 compared to a previous model sold in Japan. All this was accomplished without any reduction in the product’s performance or ability to deliver exceptionally clean, great-tasting water. The research and development that resulted in the unique technologies incorporated into the redesign was part of Amway’s ongoing effort to minimize the environmental impact of its products and processes.
As part of Amway’s evolving Life Cycle Management approach to total product performance, a formal Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was conducted in 2009 to compare the current eSpring Purifier with an older model sold in Japan. The LCA documented the new model’s strong improvements in environmental performance and allowed Amway to build its experience and capabilities with the life cycle management approach.
IMPROVED EFFICIENCY
The redesigned eSpring® system uses 46% less energy than the model previously sold in Japan. Calculated over a ten year period, the energy saved by the current eSpring Water Purifier is enough to power a town of 9,000 people for one year. The UV lamp features new wireless “instant on” technology, which enables the eSpring system to provide quality water without being on all of the time.
eSpring Water Treatment Systems use a carbon block filter designed for optimum efficiency. The design maximizes the surface area for the filtration process and requires less carbon than other pressed carbon filters. The carbon comes from coconut shells – a renewable, less carbon-intense source than coal.

LESS WASTE
The eSpring® “green” approach incorporates a modular design that uses significantly less raw materials while allowing the unit to operate more efficiently. Modular components also facilitate maintenance. eSpring design reduces the amount of parts that need to be replaced in the unit and the possibility of service issues. The system incorporates a new power technology that uses wireless connections – reducing corrosion and potential service issues. The eSpring system is not only greener; it’s simpler to manufacture, less expensive to operate, more reliable, and longer lasting.
Bottled Water and eSpring
Waste generated by plastic bottles is a huge environmental problem. According to Amway’s 2009 LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), an eSpring® System—over its life cycle—uses 99% less plastic than typical bottled water when calculated for an equivalent volume of water. Clean water delivered in an environmentally responsible manner is an issue of increasing concern worldwide. The eSpring System addresses this concern.
